Authenticity Guide
Determining the authenticity on any product can be a little tricky, but if you know the basics, you will be able to spot a fake item in just a few seconds time. Here are some things to look for:
1) The first and easiest thing to look for is an authenticity card. Many companies including Fendi, Prada, and Christian Dior include authenticity cards with their merchandise. These cards give basic information about the item and sometimes include a magnetic strip or even a bar code. Prada puts their cards in small individual envelopes. Fendi usually has the cards by themselves although the most luxurious Fendi products come with their authenticity cards wrapped in a sealed foil bag.
2) Many items come with a serial number or at least an item number. The serial number for Fendi purses can be found on the inside pocket. Simply turn the pocket inside out and their will be a printed number on the fabric or possibly on a leather tag. This is the best way to identify an authentic Fendi bag. On designer glasses, the frames usually have the item number as well as color codes printed on the inside of the frame. If the inside of the frame contains no numbers or descriptions, this is a bad sign.
3) For purses, a quick look at the interior is a good indicator. Almost all designer purses should have a brand name lining. For Prada purses, the name should be clearly visible on the lining. Fendi puts a metal tag on the lining of their purses, right below the zipper for the inside pouch. If you are buying a designer name item, the designer's name should be clearly visible on the inside in some location.
4) A simple look over the quality of the item can be the best method. For purses and handbags, designers almost always use leather accents, not plastic or vinyl. Some purses have straps that are specially coated and seem to be artificial. However a quick look the edge of the strap, usually near a stitched joint, should reveal a leather core. The item should be well made and durable. You are paying for the brand name, but the brand is popular because of a hard earned reputation for quality. If the item is delicate like some sequin bags, the construction should be meticulous in detail.
